Driftworks JZX110 Toyota Mark 2 IR-V
A Rare Opportunity to Own a Car I Wanted
This is a bit of a similar story to the time I bought my Clio F7p 1.8 16v - It's a car I always found myself checking out in media and press shots when I came across them.
My Friend had a black JZX110 Mark 2 aswell which had a big bodykit and wheels on it- I think him taking me out in his a few years prior really opened my mind to the possibilities of this Chassis/JZ engined variation - but I know the looks can be a bit marmite.
However, Phil Morrison's one here with the wider metal arches, front lower arms adjusted and stanced out - just looked "right" and better than other 110's in my opinion.
Unfortunately my ownership with this got quite challenging, and when I ran the numbers on the repairs it needed, parts and things i wanted to do to get it to a level I was happy at - it just didn't add up.
While it did have all the right parts and it was a solid, overall reliable build (engine at least anyway) - it was on older engine management system that just didn't have the functionality and safety features I'd want on an engine of this calibre and build level. When Phil Morrison built it orginally and completed it around 2011-2012, it was top tier, best of the best - which showed as it still worked!
This doubt was confirmed when I lost 3rd gear while out for a cruise in a video I caught here on my youtube channel!
Driftworks Toyota Mark 2 JZX110 1JZ-VVTi with a GTX3076r, HKS 264 cams and 6 boost Manifold. 564BHP
Shortly after, a good friend bought it off me and managed to repair this - all that happened was that the shifter fork had bent - the rest of the gearbox and the gears were fine.
